Finding a Secret Hideout in the Library
He’s late. The sun is getting hot on the window seat.
Sadie knows she doesn’t have much time.
They like to share “the nook” each week. The nook is a cut-out in the library large enough for two bean bags and a small shelf. Sadie thinks it was supposed to be a closet that never got finished. James is certain the space was made for an office no one wanted.
It doesn’t really matter.
The nook has become their meeting place. Each Saturday between four and five o’clock, they meet in the nook. They’re not allowed to talk but they share stories anyway, trading novels back and forth.
They note their thoughts in a tattered composition notebook. Her writing is in blue ballpoint, his is in pencil.
She looks down at her watch.
