No, I didn’t plant these sunflowers in a yogurt cup.

Our youngest loves living things.

He collects seeds from plants, the library seed catalog, and the hardware store.

A few months ago we attended a baby shower where we were gifted tiny terracotta pots and a few sunflower seeds.

Our youngest planted his on the first day.

It grew, bloomed, and now is gone.

He’s been eyeing mine ever since. Two weeks ago I broke down and said he could plant them.

He got excited but then dropped the little pot and cracked it.

I had saved some yogurt containers from our summer trip to Iowa. We poked holes in it and used the lid to catch water.

He planted them all, and now I can’t bear to pull any of them out.
